Eclipse of the Moon
When
the moon passes through the Earth’s shadow a lunar eclipse is produced. This
image is a 4-hour exposure that captured the entire event. The eclipse started
at the upper left part of the image and progressed to the lower right. As the
eclipse progressed the Moon moved across the sky and also became dimmer and
dimmer. The gap in the trail is the part of the eclipse when the Moon was
totally eclipsed and was too dim record on film. The mountains are the Sierra
Nevada in California.
