Lunar Eclipse

Eclipse of the Moon

When the moon passes through the Earth’s shadow a lunar eclipse is produced. This image is a 4-hour exposure that captured the entire event. The eclipse started at the upper left part of the image and progressed to the lower right. As the eclipse progressed the Moon moved across the sky and also became dimmer and dimmer. The gap in the trail is the part of the eclipse when the Moon was totally eclipsed and was too dim record on film. The mountains are the Sierra Nevada in California.
