Lenticular Cloud

Sierra Nevada mountains

This relatively rare type of cloud forms at high altitudes and in very cold air. It requires a laminar airflow, which often occurs above mountain peaks. This wonderful specimen reminded me of a great alien spaceship about to land in the valley below.
