This is a view in a slot canyon in Arizona. The name slot canyon nicely describes these deep narrow canyons carved from sandstone by flash floods. The colors are produced by sunlight and blue sky bouncing around the walls of the canyon. In this photo, a small tumbleweed nestled in a patch of sand on a rock shelf is illuminated by a shaft of sunlight.
