Supernova Pictograph

Chaco Canyon, New Mexico

This pictograph depicts the great supernova (exploding star) of 1054 AD. The star was so bright it could be seen for months in full daylight. It must have been a very exciting sight to the Anasizi people who witnessed it. One of them created this pictograph of the supernova near the crescent moon. The hand print was used to denote this site as sacred to the people that inhabited this area.
